Golden Temple in Dambulla
The name of the town Dambulla combines the Sinhalese
word Damba for Rock with Ulla for fountain dedicated
to the caves at Dambulla which belong to the most famous
Buddhist Temples in the world.
The monument was built by King Dambulla Golden Temple
Vattagamini Abhaya Valagamba.
Later King Nissanka Malla had gilded the temple`s
interior space to give g it the name of Ran Giri - Golden
Rock.
