Habaraduwa Devil dance
is very popular in the South of Sri Lanka where it serves
two different purposes.
Many people in the countryside of Sri Lanka believe in the
healing effects of the traditional Devil Dance.
As shown on these photos, it is the rural families who have
a great confidence in the healing impact of a devil dance
session.
The costs are massive and a positive result can not always
be expected.
The girl shown on the photo is reported to suffer from mental
disturbances and her family is spending around 50.000 rupees
every few months to host a big Devil Dance in the Habaraduwa
country side.
The second purpose of Devil Dances leads to direct results
in form of cash revenues when tourists receive their devil
dance version.
Here's 2 Devil Dance videos from the Galle area.
